Awakenus takes place on the beautiful grounds of Bohamia - a campground that borders the Talledega National Forest. Participants should respect and honor the land by observing practices of sustainability before, during and after the festival. Be sure to spend some time exploring Bohamia's trails, including the yellow trail to the waterfall!
How you can support sustainability at Awakenus:
Repurpose materials or use natural materials. Consider how you can repurpose materials or use natural materials in any art you may create or trinkets you may give others during the festival. Check out upcycled art ideas and natural art ideas on Pinterest.
Teach a workshop. You can sign up to host a workshop that teaches participants about sustainable practices including composting, regenerative agriculture, making recycled art and more.
Address environment causes. Use your creativity to show how the earth should be cared for. If you work for an organization that supports environmental causes, please register as a vendor if you want your location on the festival map (more information will be published soon).
Bring reusable items. Consider bringing a reusable water bottle, mug, plate, bowl and utensils.
Sort recyclables. While we would love to offer more recycling at the event, encouraging you to sort your recyclables and take them to a recycling facility will help you understand options for recycling in your area. If you don't have curbside recycling service, try finding recycling drop-off locations using Google Maps. Be sure to read what is accepted at the facility and whether it needs to be sorted.
