Safety & Well-Being in the Awakenus Community
Music and arts festivals aren't always known to be healthy environments. Our organizers have witnessed and experienced a fair share of people going overboard with drugs and alcohol at festivals and similar events like concerts.
Organizations such as Birmingham Alliance for Safer Spaces (B.A.S.S.) and Pass The Good are involved in Awakenus to provide education and support related to substance abuse. Please use these resources if you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse.
The Awakenus Org does not condone the misuse and abuse of substances at Awakenus and encourages participants to examine their relationship with legal intoxicants such as alcohol before coming to the festival. Consider engaging in healthy aspects of the festival such workshops on harm reduction, meditation, and yoga.
Now, we don't want to limit people's abilities to have fun, but we do want to encourage festival participants to be mindful of how extreme intoxication by substances such as alcohol can impede on their ability to remember their experience at the festival. We want you to take those good memories and warm fuzzy feelings home with you to share with others and not spend a week hungover and recovering.
Awakenus' efforts to be more health-conscious festival also has personal meaning to the festival's mother, Gem - our sister died of a fentanyl overdose in 2021, and we also admit to our own struggles and triumphs over various addictions throughout her life.
We love you! Take good care of yourself.
